1900

1909

Dunlop U.K.established Japan's first modern rubber factory. Began production of bicycle tyres and tubes, and nonpneumatic(solid) rickshaw tires.

1911

Began production of rubber tubing, rubber gloves, and water pillows.

1960

1963

Changed company name to "Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd." G.R.G. Dept. was divided the organization into G.R.G. and Sporting Goods Sections. The major products of the former were dredging rubber sleeve hoses, marine fenders, gas tubing, rubber gloves, rubber packing, printing blankets, adhesive, ship deck covering (Semtex), etc.

1969

Dividing "Sporting Goods Department," the G.R.G. Section was reorganized into the "Allied Products Department." Established a factory specializing in rubber gloves.

1970

1972

Established a new factory (Kakogawa Factory) specializing in the production of allied products and sporting goods.

1975

Raised to "Allied Products Division."

1976

Established the subsidiary "Dunlop Home Products Co.,Ltd" to deal with home products.

1980

1981

Established a rubber glove factory in Malaysia. Kakogawa factory expanded its rubber fender plant to increase production capacity.

1983

Introduced to the technology of sand-filled artificial turf "Omnicourt" by Tecsyn International Inc. of Canada, and started the sale of this new type of turf.

1984

Developed the small bore gas tubing, "Gas Cord."

1985

Began the marketing of "Masterstrack," a ventilated field surface consisting of rubber chips and polyurethane.

1990

1990

Began to handle water blocking gaskets for submerged tunnels, after receiving guidance from the Vredstein Icopro B.V. of the Netherlands.

Entered in a technical aid agreement for flooring materials with the Berlin Co. of Taiwan.

1991

Reorganized "Allied Products Division" to the "L&I Project Section."

Made remarkable progress in globalization of L&I business through the export of "SUMMITECH" brand gloves.

1992

Established two new divisions: the Industrial Products Division and the Floor & Sport Surface Division in the L&I Project Section.

Sumitomo's natural rubber gloves were authorized with the "Eco Mark" by the Japan Environmental Association.

1994

Completion of the company's new head office building.

Began sales of "Hyper Segment," a Flexible Segment for bored tunnels.

1995

Following the closure of the Kobe factory due to the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, production equipment was moved to another factory to maintain production.

Following the enactment of the Product Liability Act, established PL Committee.

Received permission to begin sales of imported medical equipment.

Sumirubber Industries received the ISO 9002 for its home, work, and test gloves, as well as completing its No. 4 building.

1996

Changed the name of the L & I Project Section to the Industrial Products Headquarters.

1997

Developed and began sales of "Grip Coat Disinfectant Floor," an inorganically applied germfree floor surface.

1998

Marine fender received the ISO 9001 for its quality.

Introduced "Mama Sayang" protain-free gloves.

2000

2000

Began sales of rubber-filled artificial turf "Hibrid-Turf"

Began sales of "Hyper Omega" circular type fender.

2001

Established a precision rubber parts factory in China.

2003

The establishment of SRI Hybrid Limited: Taking over industrial manufacturing at Sumitomo Rubber, the Kakogawa plant and becoming the main stockholder in affiliated companies.

2004

Began sales of the "Damping Materials for Houses".

Delivered newly-developed flexible joints "Crown Seal" "Super Horn" for immersed tunnel.

2005

Sumirubber Malaysia awarded ISO 14001 certification.

Zhongshan Sumirubber awarded ISO 14001 certification.

Long-pile, artificial turf "Hibrid-Turf XP" introduced.

Delivered flexible joint for immersed tunnel for Bosporus Strait Tunnel.

2006

Sumirubber Vietnam, Ltd. established.

Medical rubber plug business was transferred from Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd.

Sumirubber Malaysia achieves zero emissions.

New office wing completed at SRI Hybrid Kakogawa Factory.

2007

Long-pile, artificial turf "Hibrid-Turf Extreme" introduced.

Ultra-high-damping technology "Grast" developed.

2008

Zhongshan Sumirubber Co., Ltd. achieves complete zero emissions, and Sumirubber Vietnam achieves zero emissions.

Developed recyclable, zero-waste-producing artificial turf with minimal environmental impact and superior sports performance.

2009

Sumirubber Vietnam achieves complete zero emissions.

The Clean Rubber Business Team (Izumiohtsu office) obtains international ISO9001:2000 certification.

Began sales of next-generation Omnicourt XP, a new and more durable version of Omnicourt, an artificial turf with sand in it used for tennis.

2010

2010

SRI Hybrid is merged with Sumitomo Rubber Industries Co., Ltd., and becomes the headquarters of Hybrid Rubber Products.

Kakogawa Factory began production of medical rubber parts.

2011

30 years since Sumirubber Malaysia Sdn. Bhd commenced operation.

10 years since Zhongshan Sumirubber Precision Rubber Ltd. commenced operation.

2012

Vibration-damping unit for wooden houses MIRAIE, made with proprietary highly damping rubber, goes on sale.

2013

All models in the Dun-slope Light Slim series obtain certification mark in clinical evaluation of social welfare equipment.

2014

Sumigomu Takasago Integrate, Ltd., dealing with modules for medical equipment, founded as a joint venture with Takasago Electric, Inc.

New Hibrid-Turf EX, artificial turf made for maximum durability, goes on sale.

2015

Swiss medical container rubber parts company Lonstroff AG acquired, enters Group as a wholly-owned subsidiary.

Dun-slope Air, a portable wheelchair ramp, goes on sale.

2017

Sumitomo Rubber expands production with investment in new facility to manufacture rubber parts for medical applications in Slovenia.
